Carbon fiber reinforces old buildings and gives them new life!
Appearance of the Adhesive
High-quality carbon fiber impregnated adhesive should have a fine texture, free of any impurities, and without any irritating odors.
Non-toxic and Environmentally Friendly
To avoid potential harm to workers and users during the construction process, strict non-toxicity tests for indoor decoration, no ethylenediamine tests, and acute oral toxicity experiments should be implemented for the impregnated adhesive.
Adhesive Properties
Choosing an impregnated adhesive is not difficult; just pay attention to these points: the strength of the adhesive (especially the modulus of elasticity), elongation rate, and shear resistance. The current national regulations stipulate that the modulus of elasticity should not be less than 2400 MPa, and the elongation rate should be ≥1.5%. In actual reinforcement processes, since it needs to be used in conjunction with high-strength concrete and carbon fiber cloth, we recommend that the strength of the impregnated adhesive should meet a certain reserve space principle, and it should also have just the right amount of elasticity and shear resistance values.
It is crucial that each standard has made provisions for various performance indicators involved in the adhesive. For example, under the environment of (23±2)°C and (50±5)%RH, the steel-to-steel tensile shear strength of Class A adhesive should reach a standard of ≥14 MPa; the bonding tensile strength to steel should not be lower than the 40 MPa standard; and the impact peel length should be strictly controlled, not exceeding 20 millimeters. In terms of applicable temperature, after curing and maintenance for 21 days, the heat deformation temperature of Class A adhesive for structures should be ensured to be not lower than 65°C. At the same time, attention should be paid to the high standards of the impregnated adhesive under specific environmental settings, that is, (105±2)°C and (180±5) minutes, the content of non-volatile substances must be maintained at not less than 99%.
Aging Resistance
Aging resistance is one of the important standards for measuring the life of the impregnated adhesive. High-quality impregnated adhesive can always maintain good durability during long-term storage and use, which can fully reflect its high practical value.
Construction Performance
High-quality impregnated adhesive must have good construction performance, including the characteristic of not flowing easily during vertical surface construction; at the same time, ensure that the construction process does not affect the surrounding environment. It is also necessary to reduce pollution during construction. For situations where there is a need to paste multiple layers of carbon fiber cloth, the adhesive should have excellent wettability and suitable coating effects. In addition, the glue should also maintain stable curing changes at different temperatures to prevent problems such as hollowing and fabric dropping.
