Thixotropic good steel adhesive: Build a safe frame for you!
In steel bonding reinforcement projects, the role of steel bonding adhesive is crucial. To achieve the desired reinforcement effect, one must consider multiple factors when selecting the adhesive. It is necessary to ensure both the quality of the reinforcement and the convenience of construction, which requires the adhesive to not only possess strong bonding strength but also have good thixotropy. So, why should we choose steel bonding adhesives with good thixotropy? What advantages does good thixotropy bring to the adhesive? Let’s find out.
“Thixotropy” can be understood from its literal meaning as a property that changes upon touch. In fact, the thixotropy of steel bonding adhesive refers to the reduction of a fluid’s shear stress over time under a certain shear rate.
From a phenomenological perspective: when stirring the steel bonding adhesive, the viscosity of the adhesive quickly decreases, and its fluidity increases, making it easy to apply. When the stirring stops or when left static, the viscosity of the adhesive immediately increases, maintaining good stability and preventing it from flowing randomly. This is why steel bonding adhesives with good thixotropy seem to have a high viscosity but are actually low in viscosity and easy to apply during use.
This characteristic of steel bonding adhesive is of great significance for construction. For example, when performing steel bonding reinforcement work on inclined or vertical surfaces, it is necessary for the fluidity of the adhesive to be as low as possible to avoid contaminating the surface of the substrate and to prevent the wastage of adhesive. Therefore, steel bonding adhesives with good thixotropy can meet these requirements, reducing construction difficulty, minimizing material waste, ensuring uniform application, and guaranteeing reinforcement quality.
However, it is important to note that the thixotropy index of steel bonding adhesive is not the higher the better. A higher thixotropy index indicates a higher initial viscosity of the adhesive. Although the viscosity decreases rapidly during application, it will quickly rise once the application stops, leaving insufficient time for any bubbles to dissipate, which can affect the bonding strength of the adhesive and lead to less than ideal bonding results.
The advantages of steel bonding adhesives with good thixotropy for reinforcement projects include:
- Ensuring the convenience of construction without flowing or stringing;
- Maintaining the cleanliness of the substrate surface while ensuring good bonding results;
- Applying the adhesive more evenly, improving the overall reinforcement quality;
- Saving on adhesive usage, reducing construction costs.
The construction process for steel bonding adhesive is as follows:
Base material treatment → Positioning and drilling → Steel plate treatment → Mixing and applying the adhesive → Bonding and fixing the steel plate → Curing in a static condition
- Grinding the bonding surface to remove the surface layer and loose material until a new surface is exposed, and then cleaning the dust and using acetone to clean contaminants;
- Positioning and drilling: According to construction requirements, mark the position lines for steel plate bonding, determine the drilling specifications for the anchor bolts, and drill holes in the corresponding positions on the steel plate based on the distribution of the anchor bolts.
- Planting anchor bolts and steel plates: Plant the anchor bolts as required, and then rustproof and sandblast the steel surface as required. The roughness should be as high as possible, and the sanding lines should be perpendicular to the direction of the force on the steel. Clean with cotton swabs dipped in acetone and let it dry completely before use.
- Mixing and applying adhesive: Take out SHB-C701 structural steel bonding adhesive according to the required ratio and mix it thoroughly; apply it to the surface of the steel plate and the substrate to be bonded with a thickness of 1~3mm, making the center thicker and the edges thinner;
- Bonding the steel plate: After applying the adhesive, immediately fix and press the steel plate in place according to the design drawing using chemical anchor bolts or expansion bolts;
- Curing in a static condition: Do not move the bonded material until the adhesive has cured; other operations can be performed after curing.
SHB-C701 steel bonding adhesive has strong bonding and shearing force, good thixotropic properties, no flowing during application, does not contain volatile solvents, is non-toxic, has strong impact and vibration resistance, and good flexibility. It not only brings great convenience to construction but also helps build a safe framework for you!
In summary, the thixotropy of steel bonding adhesives is vital to the quality and efficiency of reinforcement projects. Following these standards and the proper steel bonding reinforcement construction process not only benefits the performance of the adhesive but also helps improve the overall quality of the reinforcement.
